First Steps for New Patients

If you are a new patient to Flossen Family Dental, one of the first steps to receiving proper care will include one of our doctors providing a comprehensive exam. This exam might occur at the same time as a cleaning or as its own separate appointment.

What to Expect During a Comprehensive Exam

During a comprehensive exam we will thoroughly review all pertinent information including your medical history, dental history, radiographs, and findings during that appointment. Once all the information has been collected, we will discuss if any further treatment is necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a comprehensive exam take?

At our office, we like to allocate a full 90 minutes for a comprehensive exam and cleaning.

How is a comprehensive exam different from a dental checkup?

A regular checkup (periodic exam) is done every 6 months following routine cleanings and focuses more on cleaning and identifying visible cavities or issues with the soft tissue. A comprehensive exam is more in-depth and looks for hidden problems, assesses your bite and jaw alignment, examines soft tissues, and helps us develop a treatment plan.
