Bone Grafting
Purpose of Bone Grafting
Bone grafting is sometimes recommended after pulling an adult tooth if you are considering a dental implant. This procedure is often done at the same appointment as the extraction of your tooth. The goal of bone grafting is to leave enough bone behind for an implant to be placed after healing is complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the bone graft material come from?
There are four main sources of bone graft material, but we mostly use allograft (cadaver bone).
Why do I need a bone graft?
You might need a bone graft to make sure there is enough thickness and height of bone for an implant to be placed. If you don’t plan on having an implant placed, there is often no need for a bone graft.
